King Edward Public Art Project – Call for Artists
cSPACE invites artists who are resident to Alberta to submit qualifications for the King Edward Public Art Project aimed to create semi-integrated public artwork(s) that contribute to the transformation of historic King Edward School into a 21st century Arts Hub and Incubator.
Deadline: 27 May 2016
Location: 1720 – 30th Avenue SW, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
As a facility designed to support diverse communities of creatives, this is a unique opportunity for artist(s) to be involved in an impactful, multi-site, public art project. cSPACE seeks partnerships with artists who have the creativity and capacity to design and execute bold public artwork(s).
This call to artists includes a two-stage selection process. Up to three artists will be shortlisted for each location to submit conceptual designs from which the chosen artist(s) will be selected by the cSPACE public art jury. Shortlisted artists will participate in site visits and further research prior to preparing full proposals.
We encourage artists applying to the King Edward Public Art Project to be bold and are offering additional types of support throughout the public art process. Peer-to-peer mentorship opportunities with different career stage artists will be supported by cSPACE and project management expertise may be provided with assistance from our engineering and consultant team. Budgets are inclusive of artist fees and materials required for the creation and installation of the artwork; however, artists will not incur fees for project management consultation or engineering review.
Commission: The total budgets for the commission for three individual artworks are $90,000, $50,0000, and $30,000 (including GST). Budget amounts must cover all costs associated with design, fabrication, and installation for relevant site locations of the artwork including but not limited to artist fees, materials, installation, and so forth.
This call is produced with the support of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Public Art Commission Program. Final works of art will become a part of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts permanent collection.
