2017 On-Ice Program – Call for Artists
Art Shanty Projects currently seeks visual artists interested in participating in the design and construction of ice fishing shanty-like structures, producing participatory projects, art, events, and shows for the 2017 On-Ice Program.
Call for artists application / registration
Deadline: 15 Jul 2016
Art Shanty Projects supports artists fiscally and logistically with as many resources as available. The current stipend amount for 2017 is $1500 for shanty artists. Grant funding is currently pending which could increase the amount up to 20%.
Project stipends for the 2017 On-Ice Program are intended to offset the costs for materials to build and move the structure as well as time to staff a shanty while the project is open to the public. The organization does not have additional travel stipends to offer out-of-state artists at this time.
Art Shanty Projects is an artist driven temporary community exploring the ways in which public spaces can be used as a new and challenging artistic environments to expand notions of art.
For four weekends in February, the 2017 On-Ice Program will transform a frozen lake in Minnesota into a village of ice fishing shanty-like structures designed and built by artists. Outdoor performances, games, and inventive cold-weather activities animate the space for curious locals, regional artists, and visitors from beyond our borders.
