Sculpture On The Lawn 2018 – Call For Artists

The Orange County Arts and Cultural Affairs invites artists to submit work for the fourth annual Sculpture on the Lawn 2018 exhibition, an outdoor display featured at the entrance to the Orange County Administration Center (201 S. Rosalind Ave) in the heart of downtown Orlando, Florida. The works are visible to approximately 10,000 people daily. Sculpture on the Lawn is open to sculptors who specialize in the design, construction, and installation of outdoor sculptures. Up to four sculptures will be selected for display from October 2018 to September 2019. One of the sculptures will be selected from a student or emerging artist, if suitable.

Deadline: 5 Aug 2018

The theme of Diversitastic! has been added to the Sculpture On The Lawn 2018. The Orange County Arts and Cultural Affairs welcomes large-scale sculptures that celebrate diversity in our communities and the interweaving of different backgrounds, cultures, and religions. The theme supports the inaugural FusionFest, November 24 and 25, 2018, a free celebration in downtown Orlando, supported by Orange County Government.

The three main considerations are creativity, site appropriateness, and durability. Selected artists must transport the artwork to the site on the specified date and install it with minimal assistance, then remove the artwork after the exhibition. Orange County provides 12-by-12-foot concrete pads. Sculptures must be firmly secured to the pads. There is a 6-foot minimum height preference. The sky is the limit for the maximum height.

Timeline

  • Notification of acceptance: August 10, 2018
  • Installation time frame: October 1 to 12, 2018
  • Opening celebration: October 19, 2018, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Sculpture On The Lawn 2018 Artist Benefits

Each artist will be awarded $3,500 as a fee for the annual loan of his or her artwork and to help offset any necessary transportation, installation, and housing costs. No other compensation will be provided. A payment of $3,000 will be made upon installation and $500 will be paid upon removal. Orange County will insure the artwork up to its stated value or $50,000, whichever is less, for theft or major vandalism. The artist will be responsible for any repairs needed due to fabrication defects or reasonable wear and tear of the object in a public location. Sales of the works will be encouraged and promoted. Any sales inquiries will be forwarded to the artist or designated agent. No commission will be charged. Sculptures must remain on site until September 2019.
